Good to know before you buy
A few practical things about what you're getting, and what to have sorted before you start building.
Who's drawing these
Plans are drawn up by an NZ-qualified draftsperson with hands-on experience in frame and truss detailing. You're buying plans built from real trade knowledge of how these small structures actually go together, not a generic template.
Pile foundation - Strong foundations with minimal excavation and site disruption.
Pile foundations are a practical choice for cabins, particularly on sloping or uneven sites. They require minimal excavation, reduce ground disturbance, and can provide a stable foundation while helping simplify site preparation and installation.
What's in the box
- Full PDF plan set: floor plan, elevations, sections, and details - to help you construct your cabin
- A field notes PDF alongside the plans: practical, on-the-tools notes to help while you're building, and something we keep adding to over time
- Wall framing elevations and a complete cutting list.
Something worth being honest about
These are DIY construction plans, not a step-by-step assembly manual, think of them the way you'd think of a good set of architectural drawings, not a flat-pack furniture booklet. The field notes PDF is there to help fill in the practical gaps as you go, but building from a plan set still calls for a reasonable level of comfort with tools and construction basics.
If that's not you, that's completely fine, plenty of buyers hand the plan set straight to a builder and let them take it from there. Either way works; just go in knowing which one you're doing.
Building code & compliance
The designs as provided are drawn with reference to NZS 3604 and the New Zealand Building Code. You're welcome to make changes, swapping the cladding, for instance, but if you do, it's on you to confirm the change still stacks up against the Building Code, particularly around durability and external moisture. And regardless of the design itself, exemption conditions (boundary distances, height, site coverage) vary by council, so always confirm your specific site before you build.
